Pre-Existing Fence Installation

Pre-Existing Cat FencePurr...fect Fence should be positioned 6 inches or so in front of pre-existing wooden or chain link fence. Our system has lots of flex to it, as well as the arched top, so it has proven to be 100% climb-proof - to date, no escapes over the top. For this reason we don’t recommend trying to adapt existing fencing. If you try to modify an existing conventional fence you are asking for problems, as cats can climb solid or stable surfaces, which then puts them right near the top with something firm to push off from.

We do not offer our components for modifying existing fences or walls. Our experiences and those of our customers tell us that anything but a complete, free-standing enclosure designed specifically for cats can be problematic for many reasons:

1. Cats can climb most any stable or solid material, so adding a top or extension to an existing fence is taking a big chance, since cats will be able to get right up to the "baffle" or arched top and have a firm surface from which to brace/push off of. The Purr...fect Fence system flexes, so the vast majority of cats never even make it anywhere near the top.

2. Joining two completely different fencing materials together is problematic in that it can be very difficult to make an escape-proof connection.

3. The time, money and aggravation associated with fence modifications and retro-fits can cost as much or more than simply installing a stand alone Purr..fect Fence system. Additionally, the thinner netting materials available online or at home centers for these retro-fits typically degrade from UV light quite rapidly and need to be replaced regularly.
